Loriguilla is one of those towns with an unusual story. The municipality was born looking towards the Serranía, but its old town centre was left almost deserted when the Loriguilla reservoir was built in the late 1960s: the dam flooded the farmland and, in 1968, most of the residents moved to a new site in the Camp de Túria, about twenty minutes from Valencia. That is why today, when someone says they live in Loriguilla, they almost always mean that modern urban centre built from scratch, orderly and compact, and not the old village the water left behind.

That origin explains what the housing is like here. The new centre was planned with flats and houses from recent decades, regular streets and well-defined blocks, with the odd villa around the edges. There is no labyrinthine old-village fabric here, but relatively recent buildings that, even so, are already due an update: kitchens and bathrooms from twenty or thirty years ago, services that fall short, closed-off layouts and insulation that feels inadequate in both summer and winter. All around it, the municipality breathes industrial estate: Loriguilla forms part of the great corridor of warehouses that grows along the A-3, next to Riba-roja and Cheste, so here too people renovate to work, not only to live.
