A concrete pool is one of those decisions you either enjoy for twenty years or regret from the very first summer. The difference isn’t in the pretty finish you can see — it’s in what stays buried: the shell, the waterproofing and the filtration. When any of that is rushed or done without proper judgement, you get leaks, staining and water that never quite looks right. At Batecs we have over 35 years building and renovating pools in Valencia, La Eliana and the Camp de Túria, and we know that almost no problem comes from the wrong mosaic tiling: it comes from poor groundwork and from a lack of coordination between whoever excavates, whoever pours the concrete and whoever installs the kit.
We work the opposite way to most of the trade. Instead of you chasing the digger operator, the filtration installer and the tiler — none of whom talk to each other — a single project manager plans the phases, coordinates every trade and keeps you informed at each step. You decide the pool you want; we make sure the shell holds, that it doesn’t lose water, and that it’s handed over when we said it would be and for the price we agreed.
Whether you’re building a brand-new pool in your villa garden, or you want to move on from a tired old mosaic pool to a contemporary finish, this is the service that brings it all together: design, permits, excavation, shell, services, finish and surroundings. And if the work goes beyond the pool itself, we integrate it with your villa renovation.
01 Complete service
What your pool construction includes
From excavation to your first swim, everything coordinated under one project manager — not a patchwork of separate trades.

Concrete shell
Earthworks and a gunite or reinforced-concrete shell, sized for your plot and engineered to withstand the pressure of the surrounding ground.

Waterproofing
The phase that prevents leaks: we treat the shell, the wall fittings and the joints with dedicated systems before anything is tiled.

Finishes
Mosaic, porcelain, microcement or liner: we choose the finish for looks, durability and upkeep — not just for the photo.

Filtration and plant
Filtration, pump, skimmers, LED lighting and, if you want it, heating, salt chlorination or smart controls to manage it all from your phone.

Coping and surround
Edges, coping and a non-slip surround that ties in with the terrace, so everything works together as one.

Permits and paperwork
We guide you on the building permit your town hall requires and prepare the paperwork so the pool is fully above board.
Is the pool part of a larger project? Take a look at our whole-home renovations and, if you’re building from scratch, new-build homes. For the house and its outdoor spaces as a whole, villa renovations are where we really shine.
02 By construction type
Types of pool: gunite, concrete, liner, fibreglass and porcelain
There’s no single best type for every plot: it depends on the ground, your budget, the shape you want and how many years you expect it to last untouched.
Gunite / concrete
A reinforced sprayed-concrete shell. The most robust option and the only one that allows any shape, depth or infinity edge. It can be finished however you like (mosaic, porcelain, microcement) and lasts for decades.
Fibreglass
A prefabricated shell that arrives ready-made and is set onto a base. Quick to install, with a smooth surface that’s easy to clean. The trade-off: you’re tied to catalogue sizes and shapes, and to having access for the shell to reach the plot.
Liner
A reinforced membrane lining a lightweight built or panel shell. The most affordable way into a pool, and it allows varied shapes. The liner is replaced every so many years, so long-term upkeep weighs more heavily.
Porcelain
Not a type of shell, but a high-end finish applied over a built-in concrete pool. It gives an elegant, non-slip, highly durable surface; it’s what we usually recommend when upgrading a tired old mosaic pool to something contemporary.
If you’re torn between gunite and fibreglass or liner, we look at it in detail in the comparison further down. As a rule, in the area’s villas where the pool is the star of the garden, gunite finished in porcelain is what ages best.
03 Your plot
Choose your situation
Every project starts from a different point. These are the most common ones in Valencia and the surrounding area; tap the one that looks most like yours.

New pool at a villa
A plot with a garden and no pool. The challenge: sizing the shell, integrating it with the terrace and handling the earthworks.

Renovating an old pool
You have a worn mosaic or liner pool. The challenge: changing the finish, fixing leaks and modernising the filtration.

Pool + terrace and garden
You want the pool as part of a complete outdoor space. The challenge: making paving, shade and access fit together without redoing work.

Small or awkward plot
Little space, a slope or tricky access. The challenge: making the most of every metre and choosing the shell that fits and gets in.
04 The whole picture
The pool, integrated with the terrace and garden
A pool rarely works as an isolated feature in the middle of a plot. It gains enormously when it’s designed at the same time as the terrace, the porch and the garden: the surround paving carries on into the terrace, the coping matches the outdoor flooring, and the plant stays hidden yet accessible. Thinking it through together from the outset avoids the most expensive mistake of all: building the pool today and then chipping up everything you’ve just laid tomorrow to run a missing drain or power supply.
We coordinate paving, services, shade (pergolas, porches) and access so the result is coherent and enjoyed all year round, not just for two months of summer. It’s exactly what we do best in the area’s villas, where the pool is the heart of the outdoor space. You’ll see it in our villa renovations and in our project gallery.
05 Investment
How much it costs to build a concrete pool in Valencia
No two plots are the same, but market ranges do help you get your bearings before requesting a quote. These are indicative: we set the real price after the site survey.
| Type of pool | Indicative price | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard gunite approx. 8 x 4 m | ≈ €18,000-28,000 | Sprayed-concrete shell, waterproofing, standard filtration, mosaic finish and basic coping. |
| Porcelain / premium finish | ≈ €28,000-45,000 | Concrete shell with a porcelain finish, better filtration (salt chlorination, LED), quality coping and surround. |
| Infinity edge / large format | ≈ €45,000-70,000+ | Infinity-edge or large-scale design, balance tank, heating, smart controls and complete surroundings. |
Indicative market ranges in Valencia for 2026, given as a reference for a concrete pool. They are not a quote or an offer. Liner or fibreglass pools usually start from lower figures. Coping, advanced filtration, heating and the surroundings (terrace, garden, shade) may be priced separately. The real cost depends on your plot.
What affects the price
The price depends above all on the size and shape of the shell, the type of finish, the level of the plant (filtration, heating, smart controls) and the coping and surround. The ground and access to the plot matter too: rocky ground or a narrow entrance push up the cost of the earthworks.
That’s why we prefer to give you a fixed-price quote after the site survey, with itemised costs, rather than a «catalogue» price that later doesn’t fit your plot. That way you know from day one exactly what you’ll pay.
After the build
Filtration and maintenance: the cost the quote doesn’t show
A pool isn’t finished the day it’s filled. The cost of living with it — water, chemicals, the power for the filtration — is decided during the build, so it’s worth thinking about before you choose. After 35 years, here’s what we usually recommend so your pool brings joy, not bills.
Don’t cut corners on what stays buried. The waterproofing, the shell and the quality of the filtration installation are the «invisible structure». Saving there is the most expensive mistake of all: fixing a leak means draining the pool, chipping up the finish you’ve already paid for and starting over.
Well-sized filtration shows every month. A pump and filter matched to the volume keep the water clear with fewer running hours and fewer chemicals. Salt chlorination cuts chemical use and a variable-speed pump lowers your electricity bill; they usually pay for themselves within a few seasons.
A good finish is maintenance you save yourself. Porcelain and a quality mosaic, properly laid, gather less dirt and clean up better than a cheap finish. And a cover reduces evaporation, leaves and heat loss: less water to top up and a longer season.

06 The Batecs method
How we build your pool, step by step
A technical, well-ordered process, from first contact to first swim.
Survey and design
We study the plot, the ground and how you’ll use it to size the pool and place it well within the outdoor space.
Design and permits
A proposal with a fixed, itemised quote, plus handling the permits your town hall requires.
Excavation and shell
Earthworks, setting out, reinforcement and gunite or concrete for the shell, with its drainage.
Services
Filtration, plumbing, wall fittings, lighting and plant, with everything provided for before tiling.
Waterproofing and finish
Treating the shell, the chosen finish, coping and a non-slip surround.
Commissioning
Filling, balancing the water and handover ready to use, with an explanation of basic maintenance.
The order matters: each phase must be properly finished before the next one covers it. That’s why we don’t start tiling until the waterproofing and watertightness tests have been checked. It’s what avoids the classic «we filled it and it started losing water».
07 The decision
Gunite vs. fibreglass or liner: which suits you
The question we’re asked most. There’s no single answer: it depends on how long you want it to last, the shape you’re after and your starting budget.
More durability and free design
- Any shape, depth and bespoke infinity edge.
- Finished to your taste: mosaic, porcelain, microcement.
- A working life of decades with good maintenance.
- It can be repaired and re-finished without replacing the shell.
- A longer build time and a higher up-front investment.
Quicker and more affordable
- Quick to install: fewer days on site.
- Lower entry cost, especially the liner.
- Fibreglass: smooth surface, easy to clean.
- Shapes and sizes limited to the catalogue (fibreglass).
- The liner is replaced every so many years.
And porcelain? It’s not an alternative to gunite, but the premium finish laid over a concrete shell. It’s the top choice when you want an elegant, non-slip finish that lasts, and the one we most recommend when renovating a tired old mosaic pool. You’ll see it in the finishes section.
08 Real work
Pool and outdoor-space projects
A sample of the kind of pools and outdoor spaces we build and renovate in Valencia and the Camp de Túria.

Mediterranean villa pool
A concrete pool integrated into a villa with a natural-stone façade: gunite shell, coping matched to the terrace, and surroundings with a porch and planting. The result is a pool that looks as if it has always been part of the house, with little upkeep.

Pool with surround and porch
A combination of pool, a non-slip surround and a shaded area, designed to enjoy the outdoors all summer. We took care with the continuity between the surround paving and the terrace, and kept the plant hidden but accessible.

Complete outdoor space with pool
An outdoor project where the pool was integrated with stone walls and finishes, access and garden. A perfect example of why it pays to design the pool alongside the rest of the outdoor space rather than as an isolated job.
You can see more completed work in our projects gallery and in our villa renovations portfolio, where the pool is often the star.
09 Finishes
Finishes and non-slip surround paving
The finish sets the look, the feel of the water and the upkeep. We advise you so every material brings something — not just colour.

Mosaic
The classic of concrete pools: affordable, repairable tile by tile and available in many shades. Well laid, it gives a really attractive finish.

Porcelain
A premium finish, elegant and highly durable, with non-slip versions. The star choice when renovating a tired old pool and bringing it up to date.

Microcement
A seamless, joint-free finish with a contemporary look. Properly applied and sealed by expert hands, it gives a very clean, modern result.

Liner
A reinforced membrane that lines the shell. The most affordable and quickest option; it’s renewed every so often and allows varied shapes.

Surround paving
Non-slip porcelain, natural stone or technical decking for the surround: it shouldn’t burn underfoot in the sun, shouldn’t be slippery and should match the terrace.

Coping and stone
The pool edge in natural stone or porcelain, very much part of the Mediterranean style of the area’s villas.
Before you dig
Do I need a permit to build a pool?
As a general rule, yes. Building a concrete pool involves excavation and a new structure, so most town halls — Valencia, La Eliana, Bétera, Riba-roja, La Cañada — require a building permit and sometimes a technical project depending on the size and the plot. On non-developable land or with easements, the process can be stricter.
This is guidance only: each town hall has its own bylaws and it’s wise to confirm them with the council before starting. The key thing is not to dig «blind»: a pool built without a permit can end in a fine or in having to legalise it afterwards. We guide you on what your town hall requires and prepare the paperwork so the work is above board from day one.
10 Before you start
Mistakes worth avoiding when building a pool
- Starting to excavate without a permit or a written fixed-price quote.
- Skimping on the waterproofing and the shell, which is where leaks begin.
- Building the pool in isolation and then chipping up the terrace to run services.
- Under-sizing the filtration: cloudy water and more chemicals every month.
- Tiling before checking the shell is watertight.
- Choosing the finish purely on looks, without thinking about upkeep.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about pool construction
How much does it cost to build a concrete pool in Valencia?
As an indicative market reference, a standard gunite pool (around 8×4 m) usually ranges from ≈€18,000-28,000; with a porcelain or premium finish, from ≈€28,000-45,000; and an infinity-edge or large-format pool, from ≈€45,000-70,000 upwards. Liner or fibreglass pools tend to be more affordable. It depends on the size, the finish, the plant and the ground. After the site survey we give you a fixed, itemised quote, with no ambiguous lines.
How long does it take to build a pool?
It varies with the type and the weather, but as a guide a concrete pool usually takes between 6 and 12 weeks from excavation, plus the time to obtain the permit. Fibreglass or liner pools are quicker to install. In the proposal we give you a phased plan with realistic timescales.
Do I need a permit to build a pool?
As a general rule, yes: most town halls in Valencia and the Camp de Túria require a building permit and, depending on the size and the plot, a technical project. On non-developable land the process can be stricter. This is guidance worth confirming with your town hall; we guide you and prepare the paperwork so everything is above board.
Which is best: gunite, fibreglass or liner?
Gunite (a built-in concrete shell) is the most durable and the only one that allows any shape, depth or infinity edge; it’s finished to your taste and lasts for decades, in exchange for a longer timescale and more investment. Fibreglass installs quickly and has a smooth surface, but with catalogue shapes. Liner is the most affordable option to start with, although the membrane is replaced every so often. In villas where the pool is the star, we usually recommend gunite.
Which finish suits me: mosaic, porcelain or microcement?
Mosaic is the classic: affordable and repairable tile by tile. Porcelain is a premium finish, elegant and highly durable, with non-slip versions; it’s what we most recommend when renovating a tired old pool. Microcement gives a seamless, modern finish if it’s applied and sealed well. We advise you according to the style of your villa, the use and the budget.
My pool is losing water — is it a leak or evaporation?
In summer it’s normal to lose water through evaporation (it can be a couple of centimetres a week, more in heat and wind). If the drop is greater or constant, it’s worth ruling out a leak. A simple check is the bucket test: compare the drop in the pool’s water with that of a full bucket beside it. If the pool drops more, there’s probably a leak. We locate and repair it without having to redo the whole pool.
Do you renovate existing pools, not just build new ones?
Yes — it’s one of our most common jobs. We change the finish (for example, from mosaic to porcelain), repair leaks, renew the filtration and plant, and update the coping and surround. During the survey we assess whether it makes more sense to renovate or rebuild.
Do you coordinate the pool with the terrace and garden?
Yes, and we recommend it. Designing the pool alongside the terrace, the porch and the garden avoids the mistake of building the pool and then chipping up what you’ve just laid. We coordinate paving, services, shade and access so the outdoor space is coherent and enjoyed all year round.
How much maintenance does a concrete pool need?
Just the right amount if it’s well built. Well-sized filtration keeps the water clear with fewer running hours and fewer chemicals; salt chlorination reduces chemicals and a variable-speed pump lowers the electricity bill. A good finish and a cover reduce dirt, evaporation and heat loss. We explain the basic maintenance when we hand the pool over.
What guarantee does the pool work carry?
We stand behind the work carried out and the materials in line with current regulations. As we’re our own team, any later adjustment is handled by us directly, without passing you on to third parties. The important thing is that the waterproofing and watertightness are checked before handover.
Which areas do you build pools in?
In Valencia city, La Eliana and every town in the Camp de Túria and l’Horta Nord: Paterna, Bétera, Godella, Llíria, Rocafort, Riba-roja, San Antonio de Benagéber, La Cañada and the surrounding area.
In summary
Building a concrete pool in Valencia includes the shell (gunite or concrete), waterproofing, filtration, finish, coping and surround, all integrated with the terrace and garden. At Batecs we deliver it with our own team, a single project manager and a fixed-price quote, taking care of what you can’t see — the shell and the waterproofing — so it lasts for decades.
As an indicative market reference, a standard gunite pool usually ranges from ≈€18,000-28,000; with porcelain or a premium finish, ≈€28,000-45,000; and an infinity-edge or large-format pool, from ≈€45,000-70,000. The real price for your plot is set after the site survey, with no surprises.
