Large-format beige bathroom renovation
A bathroom rebuilt from the waterproofing up and finished in a single warm beige, with as few joints in it as the room would allow.

Beige on every surface, one continuous plane and very little grout.
The brief
A warm bathroom that’s easy to maintain
A bathroom clad in large-format beige tiles, with a walk-in tiled shower, a freestanding bath and a built-in recessed niche to keep everyday essentials tidy.
The tone came first. Beige keeps a room this size feeling warm rather than clinical, and it is forgiving about the marks a bathroom in daily use always picks up. The format then did the practical half of the job: fewer joints across walls and floor means fewer lines of grout to scrub, and a surface that reads as one continuous plane instead of a grid.
The layout keeps both ways of washing. A walk-in shower for an ordinary weekday morning, and a freestanding bath standing clear of the walls as the piece your eye goes to first. The niche cut into the shower wall takes the bottles that would otherwise end up on the floor, which is the small detail that decides whether a bathroom stays tidy or not.

What we did, in the order we did it
A bathroom is one of the few rooms where the work you can no longer see decides how long the work you can see will last.
Strip out and waterproofing
The room came back to bare walls and floor before anything new went in. The wet area was then waterproofed as a continuous skin, taken up the shower walls and lapped into the floor — that membrane is the only thing standing between a tiled shower and the structure underneath it.
Drainage, plumbing and levels
Falls were set towards the drain so water leaves the shower on its own, with no lip to step over. Supply and waste runs were renewed and tested while the walls were still open, and the substrate was brought true: with pieces this size, a couple of millimetres out shows up as a lipped edge you can feel underfoot.
Tiling, sanitaryware and handover
Walls and floor were set out from the same reference so the joints line through instead of stopping dead in a corner. The bath, the basin and the taps went in last, the silicone lines were cut clean, and the room was handed over finished and working — not finished except for two things somebody would come back for.
Run in English. If you live here and Spanish is not your language, the worry is rarely the tiling. It is not knowing what was agreed: who explains the waterproofing detail, who reads the quote back to you line by line, who answers when the tiler has a question on a Tuesday morning. That part is ours, not yours. This is how we manage a build in English, from the first site visit to handover.
Materials
Materials and finishes in this bathroom
Nothing exotic. Each choice here was made for how the room would behave in five years, not for how it would look in the first photograph.

Large-format porcelain
Oversized porcelain running across walls and floor. Fewer joints, a warm beige that stays even from one piece to the next, and a surface you wipe rather than brush.

A shower laid level
The shower floor sits level with the rest of the room, tiled through rather than dropped into a tray. Easier to walk into, easier to clean, and nothing to trip on at six in the morning.

The bath, the niche and the taps
A freestanding bath standing clear of the walls, a niche recessed into the tiling for bottles, and sanitaryware and taps chosen to sit with the warm tone rather than argue with it.
